BackgroundOur client, British American Tobacco, was undertaking a large platform migration programme that required automated testing in order to make it commercially viable. The client recognised that manual testing would create a bottleneck and make the industrialisation of development more difficult to achieve, specifically in their complex heterogeneous SAP environment. They needed IT Transformation on a large scale. |

Delivering for the Client
The solution
Sandhata’s team created a process-oriented technical framework in which the client could perform automated component-level testing of the SAP middleware “PI”, which comprised more than 90% of the changes. Our team also successfully automated more than 100 PI interfaces during the initial phases of the IT transformation programme, which was proven to greatly reduce the project risk by decreasing the number of coding defects found in later testing cycles by 60%. By enabling early testing, the number of integration testing cycles was reduced.
The result
The company is now able to perform regression testing to cover more than 100 PI interfaces in less than a day and automated testing has reduced the test execution time for 100 interfaces from four weeks to less than two days. This has enabled the company to deliver software more quickly and with high quality assurance. The programme has ability to deliver small changes within two to three days.
The team
Sandhata’s quality assurance and testing experts introduced a coherent development process complemented by the adoption of an excellent testing tool. Sandhata’s IT transformation team was able to use their extensive knowledge and experience of RIT and testing to deliver a significant number of changes in a complex SAP environment as well as increasing quality assurance.
